Vaser Liposuction

Vaser liposuction uses a hot laser to break up fat cells before suctioning them out. The melted fat cells are easier to remove and this helps decrease liposuction swelling and bruising.

Any laser liposuction or laser assisted liposuction is still liposuction. Your cosmetic surgeon will insert a metal tube into your fat and suction it out. The laser is used to burst your fat cells just before the suction is done.

Don't make the mistake of assuming that vaser lipo or laser liposuction isn't surgery. It is. It is an improvement on traditional tumescent liposuction and usually produces better results and faster surgery recovery.

Sometimes liposuction can be done without general anesthesia (where you are asleep) but most liposuction procedures still use general anesthesia or conscious sedation. Conscious sedation allows you to relax and forget the surgery. Some say liposuction recovery is easier without general anesthesia.

With vaser lipo surgery you may experience:

  • Burns
  • Uneven skin
  • Dimpling

A liposuction alternative which has fewer liposuction risks is Smartlipo™.

Because vaser lipo uses a "hotter" laser, it increases the risks of liposuction when it's used. Smartlipo is a "cool" laser and uses a smaller suction device. The cooler laser can be used in places the vaser cannot.

Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon which method is best for your particular needs.
